Ben Sawyer began life as a countertenor in the choirs of Kingston Parish Church and Tiffin School. He now enjoys a busy schedule singing around the world in choirs, as a soloist and as a founder member of award-winning male voice a cappella group 'The Songmen'. Ben has taken solo roles in Handel's Messiah, Samson and Dixit Dominus, Bach’s St John Passion and Purcell’s Hail! Bright Cecilia, amongst others, and recently performed in Bach’s St Matthew Passion with the Corelli Orchestra in a consort of just eight singers. He is currently studying with William Purefoy.
With The Songmen, Ben has toured America, China, much of Europe and performs regularly in the UK. He is also the group’s composer-in-residence and has had a number of his compositions and arrangements played on national radio.
Ben has been a lay clerk at Birmingham and Gloucester Cathedrals and currently sings with Tewkesbury Abbey Schola Cantorum.
